About the Artist

I'm Kara Pangilinan. I'm a visual artist and I started Details Ink in 2011 as a platform for my creative pursuits. Starting out with stationery products and t-shirts, I transitioned to drawing on things like helmets and guitars, teaching doodle art workshops, and then eventually I found my sweet spot creating commissioned artworks and murals. It was a long journey, but thankfully I’ve gotten to work with brands like Heineken, Johnnie Walker, Samsung, Youtube, Toblerone, and Google.

During the pandemic, I veered away from commercial work and prioritized creating art for homes and spaces. That shift allowed me to live the slow and creative life of my dreams, and I’m forever grateful for that. Swipe through these photos to see some milestones in my journey!

  • 2011 - 2014

    Details Ink used to be all stationery products with my black & white designs, which I sold online and at bazaars through high school and college.

  • May 2014

    Design empire?! Not really. But this was a big feature that led to many of inquiries and projects, during a time that I barely had any.

  • September 2015

    The first artwork I accidentally sold was at a bazaar. It wasn’t for sale but, this lovely lady asked. I sold it for Php 3000! It was the beginning of a big change.

  • Summer 2016

    This was the year I started doing wall murals! And this is my first ever hire, Erka. I would not have survived without her!

  • November 2016

    My first solo exhibit was also my 5th anniversary celebration. I sold thirty paintings that night and it was the best feeling in the world!

  • June 2018

    Woohoo! I graduated from UP Diliman and applied for a firm shortly after. Seven months later, I quit to pursue my art full time.

  • July 2018

    This is me preparing for my second solo exhibit in my tiny little room at home. I sold my bed because I needed the studio space. Haha good decision.

  • August 2019

    I was invited to be a guest speaker at the MDRT Global Conference in Sydney! The organization also commissioned three live murals. Yay!

  • July 2019

    Here are the first traces of color in my professional work. It started out as just backgrounds and accents before I was brave enough to embrace it in full.

  • April 2020

    Oh, this is unrelated to my art journey but, I am also a yoga teacher! And that started with a mural project I did for Beyond Yoga in 2019. Everything connects.

  • 2021

    I love this photo because for this commission, I got to paint for a week at a farm house in Tagaytay. This may be the best representation of where I’m at as an artist now.

    Finally got to mount my third solo exhibit after five years of just working hard on commissioned pieces. Till the next one!

    Not art related but, I got married! This love story was 15 years in the making and I am one lucky Mrs. Blame this guy for adding color to my black & white world 🤪

    My fourth exhibit, Woman in Progress, was held at Gallery C, Conrad Manila. It was an honor to be invited to showcase 29 pieces in this massive space!
