Kara’s Portfolio

Since I started in 2011, I’ve evolved quite a lot as an artist. I’ve gone through several styles and media, starting with a purely black & white body of work and eventually introducing more colors into my art. Below are some of my recurring styles.

  • Art is my coping mechanism. In most of my early work, you’ll find lines, shapes and patterns rendered in black and white, all expressing intense emotions. I use elements in nature to capture human emotions and experiences. Each piece tells a story

  • I made my first lace piece by accident in the year 2022. Being able to paint lines, leaves and all sorts of patterns in such a light and delicate way is what continues to draw me to this subject. After showcasing my first lace pieces in my third solo exhibit, I kept painting.

  • It was during the 2020 lockdown that I missed nature so much that I painted a mural of leaves in my bedroom. From that moment, the commission requests for leaves paintings poured in and I never stopped painting that subject since.

  • It took me years to be brave enough to paint the female form but through this subject, I am able to express my most honest emotions and capture universal moments, feelings and experiences.
